What equipment do I need for BUILD?
BUILD takes you from dumbbell & kettlebell work to barbell lifts progressively over 6 months. By Month 2 you’ll need access to just about everything listed below.
Dumbbells & kettlebells, at least 2+ pairs, can be used interchangeably for most movements
Adjustable bench (flat & incline)
Barbell & rack/cage (bonus if you have a trap-bar, too)
Variety of weight plates (pairs of 2.5, 5, 10, 15, 25, 45#)
Cable pulley system with wide & narrow grip handles
Bands (recommend large loop & heavy duty), can be used as a substitute for cable lifts
What equipment do I need for TRAIN?
TRAIN requires all of the equipment below but unlike BUILD we start in Month 1 with barbell lifts.
Is BUILD or TRAIN right for me?
Great question. To which I’ll respond with some questions 😂
How would you classify your experience level with lifting/strength training?
Do you feel comfortable with barbell lifts?
The main difference between BUILD & TRAIN is that BUILD will take you from dumbbell & kettlebell work into barbell work step by step. (We don’t throw you to the barbell-sharks all at once or right off the bat). TRAIN starts Week 1 with barbell work in your main lifts.
If you feel more like a beginner in the gym or have never touched a barbell, go with BUILD.
If you’ve been in the gym frequently & are generally knowledgeable about how to set-up/use a barbell, go with TRAIN.
How much does it cost?
$29.00/month. No matter the program.
If I sign-up & decide it’s not a good fit, what do I do?
Simple solution? Cancel your subscription.
Better solution? Reach out to your coach & talk with them. Maybe you don’t think it’s a good fit but really you just need a little strategizing to make it yours.
Or maybe it’s just not a good fit & your coach will tell you that, too.
Can I switch back and forth between BUILD and TRAIN?
I don’t recommend doing this but I suppose it’s possible.
If you start one program & realize you’d rather work through the other, let me know & I’ll get you taken care of.
As far as going back and forth between BUILD and TRAIN (like doing 1 month in BUILD, 2 in TRAIN and back to BUILD) I don’t see there being much benefit to jumping between them because of how they are designed (BUILD as a “pre-requisite” to TRAIN).
What is the cardio program like?
The cardio program included is general with basic guidelines & descriptions. Although the sessions are “optional” I highly recommend doing them to get in those 75-150 minutes of recommended cardio each week! If you have specific questions about cardio, you can always ask me inside the app.
How do I know how much weight to lift?
Both BUILD and TRAIN start with capacity training blocks where we’re working on improving movement pattern proficiency as well as increasing load. Inside each session’s instructions you can find advice on when to increase load or keep it the same.
You also will have access to your own estimated 1 rep-max spreadsheet for your particular program. There you can track your weights, reps & estimated 1 rep-maxes as we go through AMRAP testing throughout the program.
& Even though I’m not giving specific suggestions each week, if you fill out your weekly check-in you can always ask specifics or for feedback from me.
What if I don’t know how to do a specific lift that’s programmed?
Good news is through these programs you have access to my entire movement demonstration library right on the app & right inside each workout. Every single lift that is programmed also has a video demonstration with voiceover & written instructions to help you learn the ins & outs of the lift. You will also be prompted to take recordings of different lifts throughout the program for feedback! While these video requests are optional, I highly recommend you take advantage of the extra coaching options to optimize your work.
If I miss a lift will I get kicked out of the program?
Absolutely not. I’m not in the business of “kicking out” people or making all-or-nothing fitness programs. If you miss a lift you can refer to the BUILD & TRAIN Resource that walks you through 6 different options for what to do when that happens.
(Yes, when, not if. It happens to all of us.)
And if you can’t decide what the right next step is, message me on the app & we’ll walk through it together.
